When I quit my job over a year ago and decided to do a major “reboot” to my life, I had a passion and a vision that was knocking for several years waiting to be answered. 2024 was a year of incredible transformation for me and my family. Now 2025 brings an exciting new chapter as the vision has crystalized into – The Regenerative World Quest!!!
The Quest started May 2024 when we moved to a 100-acre farm about an hour outside of Denver. It is a friend’s farm and we moved there last spring to live a more values-aligned life and raise our boys more connected to the natural world. My husband and I both quit our jobs, rented out our house, pulled our boys out of school and took a big leap of faith without fully knowing what was on the other side.
This leap has evolved into a three-year global quest for regenerative living. Together with our boys (ages 4 and 7) we’re visiting the top 20-30 places globally that model regenerative practices. By incorporating indigenous wisdom, modern innovations, and living systems design, we aim to identify and replicate best practices, creating a blueprint for global shared prosperity and a healthy planet.
Why are we doing this? For many reasons, first is to design for our own wellbeing while living our purpose paths. Matty (hubby) and I had reached all levels of societal success but kept finding our wellbeing decreasing. We worked way too much, hired other people to take care of our kids, partied to unwind and fought all the time. That is not living! That is ‘just making it through’. We asked ourselves what it is we feel called to do together? What is our purpose path as a couple and family? The Quest answered.
Second, humans are creatures of narrative. For millennia, human culture has been shaped by stories, and legends passed down from generation to generation. Humans are moved by emotions and paralyzed by fear. Climate scientists keep hitting us with dire fact after dire fact. Hollywood keeps us glued to the TV with story after story of apocalyptic breakdown only to find a more terrible future ahead. The news plasters continual headlines of the dark side of human nature and conflict. I believe that what we focus on grows. If we focus on these dominant (dark side) narratives, then we will collectively manifest this. Yikes! Certainly not the future I want to build and leave for my kids and grandkids….You?
When I close my eyes and picture the future I do want to pass on to my grandkids, I see a beautiful world where humans have stopped trying to control evolution. A world where humans realize we are one with nature and deeply connected to all things. I see living buildings with edible plant walls, thriving watersheds, place-based communities that can provide all the resources they need to not just survive, but to thrive. I see communities that honor the old and the young, not ship them off to facilities to ‘care for them’ because we have become too busy to. I see systems designed in circular manners that do not try to control change, but rather flow with it, that do not extract from nature, but give back to it. The cool thing is that there are examples right now, all over the globe where this is already happening. While there is not one place, yet that has it all, there are hundreds of places (maybe thousands) that are living a part of this now!
The Quest seeks to find these places and deeply immerse ourselves in “living the solutions”. Then elevate the solutions that are vetted, and ready for replication and then pilot them in key demonstration sites in Colorado.
Chapter one was summer and fall 2024 on Yellow Barn Farm near Lyons Colorado, working in regenerative agriculture for drylands ecosystems with DAR. This will be the home base for the Quest and where we will return on the off months of travel. Yellow Barn and DAR will also be implementation and demonstration partners in the years ahead.
The next chapter is Costa Rica Jan-March of 2025. We will visit 8 different ecovillages and regenerative learning hubs all of them considered part of a Blue Zone. (Eco Villa, Eco Villa San Mateo, Alegria, Eterna, Pacha Mama, Shift Esperanza, Cirenas, Eco Villa Cabo Blanco). Domestic USA will be on deck for summer 2025, then Australia, New Zealand and Hawaii for Winter 2026; Africa, Europe, and South America for 2027. You can see the actual places we plan to visit on the website and if you have any you think should be on the list please reach out!
We will be doing immersive research, interviews with founders and residence, site visits and solution vetting, writing, blogging, videoing. Ultimately each quest site will become a case study for regenerative living based on a comprehensive research inquiry. We will be filming content a lot and if we can raise enough money, turn each quest site into a docu-series and hopefully a full documentary once we are done.
We are currently working on the research questions and format and have an eleven-point framework as the foundation for the Quest. Yes, it is about regenerative agriculture, and it is also about community governance, education, transportation, housing and infrastructure, resources, waste systems etc. We will be looking at all aspects that shape and govern community living and mapping them to regenerative principles to create an updated blueprint for humanity. It is part family journey, part immersive research, part replication model, part content creation and all leading toward implementation and demonstration of true regenerative living right there in Colorado. You can find out more on the website or email me (bthelightconsulting@gmail.com) if you are interested and I can share more.
Deepest gratitude and admiration for the team at Savory Institute for believing in this work enough to be the fiscal agent for it. The Regenerative World Quest is officially operating as a 501c3 through Savory. We will be visiting many of the Savory Hubs around the world as official Quest sites as well as building relationships and an international network for knowledge and best practice sharing.
We are currently seeking funding, so if you are inspired, please consider supporting the Quest for regenerative living, all amounts make a difference! (email me bthelightconsulting@gmail.com)

I can’t wait to see what’s discovered on your quest. How bold…I admire the courage to do this.
Thanks Michael! It has been a wild ride already and I am so excited for the journey ahead!
Thank you for sharing your journey with us. And thank you for showing us what courage looks like. May we all not settle and have the courage to create the better life for ourselves and the next generation.
Thanks Erica! Sending you and yours LOVE!
