I wanted to give you a gift of tangible hope as we launch into 2026! Most news today feels too heavy to even have on around my kids(not like when I was a young, I remember listening to NPR with my mom and learning so much about the world). So, instead of “doom and gloom,” I’m sending you a hopeful, natural solution to enjoy and share in the new year! Give me just one moment to stage the problem though…
Carbon is the Foundation, Not the Villain
Carbon is the very building block of life; every cell in your body is carbon-based. The crisis isn’t carbon itself, but the fact that human activity has overloaded the atmosphere and disrupted the natural carbon cycle and thus Earth’s balance. Nature has three remarkable systems—Oceans, Forests, and Soils—that act as carbon sinks, storing more than they release. Unfortunately, human pursuit for “creature comforts” has broken these cycles.

Extraction: We’ve released ancient carbon by extracting over a trillion barrels of oil.
Deforestation: We have clear-cut 98% of old-growth forests.
Ocean Acidification: Excess CO2 is turning our oceans acidic.
Soil Degradation: Industrial agriculture has turned productive soil (that essentially eats carbon) into inert “dirt”.
✨Shifting from Problem to The Solution
If human activity disrupted the cycle, human action can restore it. We don’t need a synthetic, “band-aid” technological fix; the most powerful solution already exists in nature. By supporting biological and systemic regeneration, we can stop being the problem and become the custodians of a healthy, vibrant planet.
🌲 The Ultimate-Natural-Climate Technology: Ancient Trees
The most effective tools for restoring our planet are the ones that have done it for millennia: ancient, old-growth trees. Research confirms that a single redwood or sequoia can sequester as much carbon in one year as a medium-sized tree stores in its entire life. Reforestation efforts are great, but are we using the right trees? If we have clear cut 98% of the old growth forests, then that means we are reforesting with the genetic runts….
As part of the Regenerative World Quest (RWQ), my boys and I visited David Michael Milarch and the Archangel Ancient Tree Archive (AATA) in October 2025. They are the only group in the world that has successfully cloned and propagated ancient, “Champion” trees. After a tree is over 80 years old, it has been impossible to clone and propagate it. Kinda like an 80-year-old woman having a baby. But David and his team figured it out, they have made the impossible possible!

For the last 30 years, they’ve cloned over 100,000 trees from 112 species, including trees over 5,000 years old. At the heart of their work is the majestic coast redwood and giant sequoia. These aren’t just big trees; they are carbon sequestration champions that have survived centuries of fire, disease, and changing climates. While modern landscapes are barren from these giant trees, they did cover most of North America pre colonization. In fact, European settlers often described a forest so thick a squirrel could travel from the Atlantic to the Mississippi without touching the ground. Unfortunately it was all cut down to build the infrastructure around us. We have lost over 95-99% of the original old-growth in the U.S. Modern forests are often younger, less diverse, and lack the complex “Ancient-Baby DNA” ecosystem dynamics of the pre-colonial era. AATA holds one of the most powerful, natural solutions to climate change and we are ready to bring it to the world!
Why Ancient Trees are the Key:

🌎 The 2026 Blueprint: Creating a Regenerative World
Planting the right trees is only half the battle; we need to redesign human systems to live in harmony with nature. We are moving beyond “sustainability” (maintaining the status quo) toward regeneration (restoring the health and vitality of Earth’s systems). By combining the world’s most resilient biological technology—Ancient Champion Trees—with a new blueprint for human community, we can shift from being the problem to becoming the custodians of a vibrant planet.

In 2026, the RWQ and AATA are launching four urban regeneration projects in California, New York, Illinois, and Kentucky- leading the way for more in the years to come! As a true model of degeneration to regeneration, the plantings will be done in abandoned or dilapidated inner-city areas helping to detoxify and heal the land. Each project is led by local partners with deep community roots and will help to restore part of the carbon cycle at each site in collaboration with inner-city youth groups. This model is a replication from a successful pilot by AATA in Detroit in early 2025 (pictured to the left) and aligned with a vision I shared in an early blog about CommuniTrees.
A thoughtful educational program called Tree School is incorporated, where participants learn about the ecosystem benefits of trees and, specifically, the importance of old-growth forests. Tree School helps to reconnect youth with nature, honoring our role as part of it, and rekindling the sacred bond between people and the planet, starting with inner city USA.
To date, humanity has not had the option of reforesting with old growth genetics. Thanks to David Milarch and his team at AATA, we can now. The reforestation projects of the past are important, but they will not cut it alone. Carbon is not the enemy—it is the building block of life. By restoring the natural carbon cycles with old growth forests, we shift from being the problem to becoming custodians of a vibrant planet.
Who wants to play? If you feel called to bring an old-growth forest to your city or support our 2026 projects, please reach out! You would be surprised where these trees can grow so don’t let location hold you back!!! Please don’t forget to follow the Regenerative World Quest on social!
Lastly here is a video we made about The Archangel Ancient Tree Archive!
Thanks for reading!
